I do not want anyone reading this to think I speak generally. There are often exceptions and this applies to what I found out in researching this issue. The difference however, is that family units that truly adhere to the tradition and heritage almost always tend to avoid confronting others during the get-togethers. Their approach is to try and maintain peace but at the same time carefully making sure their children avoid their cousins whose behaviour including those of their parents they have identified as detrimental. Correction within a family must not be restricted to one's immediate members especially during gatherings. Since parents learn from one another, it is profitable to everyone when they hold all the children accountable while enforcing the standards that have guided tradition and heritage from one generation to another.
The benefit of this is that there is agreement in the activities for all the children. Playing with each other without some parents feeling a threat to their comfortable parenting style. The absence of congruence may cause schism in the family. I believe the recipe for positive family relationships is rooted in tradition and heritage that are guided by faith in GOD. These are usually what grand-parents and parents pass on to children during family reunions. The food and fellowship are great and important parts of these gatherings but the essential remains the introduction and maintenance of trandition and heritage of the family group. This is beneficial and profitable for the overall stability of the family.
In giving guidance or administering discipline, always remember to safeguard the heart of the recipient. One must be guided by the Holy Spirit through Whom all restoration originates.
If you are reading this and do not know who Jesus is to you and the world, we are willing to help.
Selah!
